Birth of Imam al-Ridha (as)

Imam Ali al-Ridha, the Eighth Imam, was born in Medina in 148 Hijri and succeeded his father Imam Musa al-Kazim at age 35 after the latter's imprisonment and death by Harun al-Rashid. Facing Abbasid tyranny, he continued guiding followers discreetly. Summoned by Mamun to Merv in 200 Hijri amid succession struggles, he was appointed heir-apparent to gain Persian support, leading to Mamun's victory over Amin. Imam Ridha lived simply, established Karbala Majalis in Qom and Tus, and died poisoned in Tus in 203 Hijri at age 55, buried near Harun's tomb.
