Privacy Policy

How ShiaCal handles your data and privacy.

Overview

ShiaCal (shiacal.com) is a free, open-source Shia Islamic events calendar. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This page explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and how we use it. We do not sell or share personal data with third parties.

Analytics

ShiaCal uses Umami, a privacy-focused, open-source analytics platform. Umami does not use cookies, does not track users across websites, and does not collect personally identifiable information (PII). The data collected includes page views, referrers, browser type, and country — all in aggregate form. No IP addresses are stored. You can opt out of analytics by using a browser with an ad-blocker or by disabling JavaScript.

Contact Form

When you use the contact form at shiacal.com/contact, your name, email address, and message are sent directly to the ShiaCal team via a secure server-side request. We use this information solely to respond to your query. We do not store form submissions in any database; messages are delivered through a private notification channel and retained only as long as necessary to address your request.

Calendar Subscriptions (ICS)

ShiaCal provides ICS calendar files that you can subscribe to in apps such as Apple Calendar, Google Calendar, or Outlook. When your calendar application fetches these files, a standard HTTP request is made to our server. We log aggregate download counts (via Umami analytics) but do not log or retain your IP address or any personal information from these requests.

Cookies and Local Storage

ShiaCal does not use advertising cookies or tracking cookies. We use browser localStorage to remember your preferences such as display theme (light or dark) and Hijri calendar offset. This data is stored only on your own device and is never transmitted to our servers.

Third-Party Services

ShiaCal is hosted on Vercel, which may process request metadata (such as IP addresses) as part of its infrastructure. Please refer to Vercel's Privacy Policy for details. All event data is sourced from publicly available Shia Islamic references (al-islam.org, sistani.org, whoishussain.org) and no personal data is involved in that data pipeline.

Your Rights

Since ShiaCal does not collect personal data in a database, there is no personal data to access, correct, or delete. If you have submitted a contact form message and would like it removed, please contact us and we will promptly delete any record of your communication.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Continued use of ShiaCal after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
